Drs Rosa and Ian Matheson first met the children in 2009. They were in Nepal as part of a joint UK/Nepal medical camp organised by their son.

They were asked to see a 'large family' of children, who were poorly and their carers could not afford to pay to see a doctor.

The children were living in the slums of Kathmandu. There was no running water, no electricity, and just one non flushing toilet for more than 20 people.

On their return to the UK Rosa and Ian decided to 'make a difference' and soon the Friends charity was set up.

Within months Rosa and Ian were back in Nepal and re-housed the children in a rented home.

With hard work, dedication, endless enthusiasm and wonderful supporters the children have flourished.

Very early on Rosa and Ian established the principles that would shape our work. "Every little helps, every penny counts" became our mantra.

No one is paid a salary to look after the children, the charity has no employees, and the trustees take no payment for their work.
The trustees pay their own way when visiting the children twice a year.

We encourage a sense of social responsibility and encourage creative, independent thinking.

Today, the children are a wonderful credit to everyone who has helped along the way. They are a great pleasure to be with, doing well in their studies, and developing a strong social awareness and compassion for others.

today 's bedrooms, more room to study, relax and hang clothes - all thanks to our amazing supporters
